Jessica from Splendiferous Inclinations

1) What inspired you to start your own blog?

I’m in graduate school, and I do a LOT of writing.  I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I felt like I needed a creative outlet outside of writing academic papers.  It’s no secret that I’m a long-time girly-girl, and I’ve always loved fashion and beauty.  I started reading fashion, beauty, and lifestyle blogs around October 2010 and then started my own blog, Splendiferous Inclinations, in December.  It took me a little time to find my style and niche, but I think I’m finally where I want to be.  I have such wonderful, supportive readers whose encouraging comments always inspire me to continue doing what I do.

2) Do you have a favorite post on your blog?

One of my all-time favorite posts is Dressing for graduation: Getting Inspiration from your major and other tips.  I styled graduation looks inspired by 14 different college majors.  It was so fun!  There are lots of other posts that have received more traffic, but I just genuinely loved working on that post.  I really enjoy posts that let me tap into my creative side.  Some of my favorite outfit posts include an early post shot at a gorgeous location in Arkansas called Beautiful, my first DFW snow experience in Success!!, a shoot with newly blooming flowers in Dressing for me, and a birthday outfit in Turning 23. I think it’s safe to say that I like outfit posts that have attachments to positive memories.

3) If you could narrow it down to one answer, what do you love the most about Dallas? Why?

I love the convenience of Dallas.  There are so many suburbs and different parts of the area to explore, and each city and town seems to offer something different.  You don’t have to travel far to find something new and fun.  I grew up in San Antonio, but I moved here after I married my husband last summer.  I’ve really enjoyed living in the area.

4) What does “being local,” mean to you?

To me, “being local” means being a participant in you community.  That means different things for different people, but some ways I feel I’m “being local” is by taking my dogs to the local dog park and going to farmers markets and buying fresh produce.  I also love going out with friends to see plays – I’m so impressed with all the theaters here!  I have a theatrical background and have a deep appreciation for the arts, so I love to get out and experience the local theatre scene.

5) What are some of your favorite local independent establishments?

I really like discovering local restaurants.  There’s this wonderful Italian restaurant in Southlake called Garliq.  The food is delicious, and the prices are fantastic!  My husband, Caleb, and I really enjoy dining there.

We also really like a Mexican restaurant called Centro, which is located in the Austin Ranch area of The Colony.  Their food is terrific, and their happy hour specials are unbeatable! Caleb and I don’t mind making a long drive to eat some good food, and we’ve driven all over the Metroplex to experience new restaurants.  These are just two of our favorites.
